Bath Golf Club

Junior Membership

The Junior Section at Bath Golf Club has about 50 girls and boys ranging from 7 to 18 years of age

The section is run by a Junior Committee, each of whom takes responsibility for one of the major activity areas for the year.

We run regular competitions during the season which are open to all players, including those who have not yet achieved a handicap. These are usually Stableford competitions but some are medals. Some of them carry a trophy as first prize and these are awarded at the Club’s annual prize giving at the end of the year.

Our Junior team plays in the Bristol & District Junior Golf League, against teams ranging from Clevedon to Chipping Sodbury. The 2010 season was our best ever, the team reaching the league play-offs without losing a match, coming second in the Alliance Trophy and winning the Alliance Knockout Cup.

The Section raises money by donations from individuals and other sections of the Club, and also by running Open tournaments. The money we raise is invested in developing our players.

The Wessex Masters is open to players under 14 and attracts top-quality players from all over the country. Our Junior Open is a Daily Telegraph qualifier for all juniors and usually attracts around 60 competitors.

We run group coaching on Saturdays during the Spring and Summer available to members and non-members and junior open evenings. We are very grateful for the support of our professionals, Russell Covey, Phil Cloak and James Hannam.

Coaching and Competing

The professional team at BGC run regular group coaching for juniors which are booked on a weekly basis. Once beginners are ready they will be able to take out a Junior Academy membership which will allow them to join in Blue Tee experience, playing on our shortened course.

After a season in the Academy juniors can take out a full junior membership which enables them to put in cards to gain a first handicap and then to enter all the club competitions. As every individual's rate of progress varies some juniors may wish to go straight to a full junior membership.

Under the World Handicapping System (WHS)  players can be allocated a handicap up to a maximum of 54, for both boys and girls. Once you have achieved a playing ability to have a WHS handicap you can play in all the junior stableford competitions and you may be eligible for some matches against other clubs. Each time you play in a competition or submit a card your score will be entered in the handicapping system which will calculate your performance against the course and adjust your handicap accordingly. Keep an eye on the results pages and Master Scoreboard so you know what your latest handicap is.

When your handicap gets to 28 (boys) or 36 (girls) you will be able to play in team matches and enter all the junior trophy competitions.
